On With Life is a specialized brain injury rehabilitation center, born from the passion of eight families determined to rebuild lives impacted by brain injuries. They crafted a unique, post-acute program that now spans seven locations, serving thousands each year. Our approach prioritizes personalized care, with each treatment plan tailored to fit the unique needs of our patients and their families.

Since our incorporation in 1987, On With Life has grown from a dream into a renowned rehabilitation facility. We opened our doors in 1991, thanks to incredible community support, including a pivotal $10,000 donation from a Girl Scout’s fundraising marathon. Over the years, we’ve expanded to include both inpatient and outpatient services, as well as long-term care and independent living options for brain injury survivors. Today, we are proud to be one of the few brain injury programs in the world to achieve prestigious accreditation, standing as a beacon of hope for families navigating life after injury.

Our Programs

• Post-Acute Inpatient Neuro Rehabilitation
  Our CARF-accredited 28-bed program offers intense therapy and collaborative care for survivors of traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other neurological conditions. We work with you and your family to develop a personalized treatment plan focused on your goals.
• Outpatient Neuro Rehabilitation
  Enjoy the highest level of care through our outpatient program, which combines brain injury, stroke, concussion, and Parkinson’s expertise. Our multidisciplinary team—comprised of physical, occupational, and speech therapists, along with neuropsychologists—ensures comprehensive support for your recovery.
• Residential Neuro Rehabilitation
  Our five-bedroom residential home provides a nurturing environment for individuals recovering from brain injuries. We focus on community integration, fostering independence, and managing neurobehavioral challenges to prepare you for life at home.
• Day Services at New Horizons Center
  We’ve partnered with New Horizons to enhance our continuum of care! This program offers daily support and recreational therapy for individuals with brain injuries or neurological diagnoses, helping them lead purposeful lives.
• Neuropsychological Services
  Our outpatient neuropsychological evaluation helps you understand brain-behavior interactions and identify challenges stemming from brain dysfunction, guiding your path to recovery.
• Independent Living Apartments
  The Apartments of Owl Creek provide 14 accessible, affordable independent living spaces on our Ankeny campus. They are designed for individuals who have experienced brain injuries or physical disabilities, promoting a safe and comfortable living environment.

At On With Life, we proudly hold CARF accreditation—the gold standard for rehabilitation facilities—across several inpatient, outpatient, and residential programs. This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to patient-centered care and superior outcomes.

We’re thrilled to announce that On With Life is the only freestanding inpatient rehabilitation program in the world accredited by CARF for both brain injury and stroke specialty programs for children and adults. Our world-class facility in Ankeny is dedicated to supporting individuals with traumatic brain injuries, strokes, Parkinson’s Disease, concussions, and complex neurological conditions through a comprehensive continuum of care.
