LEARN MORE ABOUT CommUnity Crisis Services
OUR STORY
In 1969, two University of Iowa freshmen faced a life-changing crisis when their roommate attempted suicide. Their struggle to find support sparked a campaign for change, leading to the creation of The Crisis Center of Johnson County in 1970, now known as CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank.
Starting as a confidential hotline, the organization quickly expanded to offer 24/7 support and additional services like a food pantry and financial aid. Over the decades, CommUnity has grown to address a wide range of community needs, from suicide prevention to disaster response.
In 2019, we updated our name to better reflect our dedication to serving the community. To learn more about our journey and ongoing efforts, visit our website.
