Founded by Samantha Johnson, The Local Hub was created to fill a crucial gap in our community: the need for a central platform to discover local events, explore outstanding businesses, and receive trusted recommendations from neighbors. Driven by her love for the Iowa City area, Sam developed a comprehensive, user-friendly platform where residents can effortlessly do all those things and more. The Local Hub connects you to everything special about the Iowa City community, from the best burger joints to local volunteer opportunities and can’t-miss community events.
Our mission is to offer a curated guide to Johnson County, serving both lifelong residents and newcomers. We strive to support local businesses by providing them with the exposure they need to thrive, fostering a strong, interconnected community where everyone benefits and grows together.

Hi, I’m Sam, I own The Local Hub!
I moved to the Iowa City Area in July 2020 from Madison, South Dakota. I didn’t know many people, that wasn’t the best time to talk to strangers, and I was struggling on finding all the information I wanted as a new resident in an area much larger than my tiny hometown. It is thrilling to me that I can now provide this service I so desperately wanted when I moved here!
When I’m not providing the most up-to-date content for The Local Hub, I am serving on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County Board, spending time on the Alzheimer’s Association Walk Committee, or championing local businesses as an Ambassador for Greater IC. I enjoy volunteering, working out, eating at delicious local establishments, and spending time with my two rescue cats, Olaf and Jenny From the Cinderblock.

Hey, I’m Heidi Broders! I have lived in the Johnson County area for 15 years and currently reside in Solon.
Before starting at The Local Hub – IC I worked in the dental field as an assistant and financial coordinator where I met Sam. I now work behind the scenes at The Local Hub – IC to help grow this amazing resource.
When I’m not busy working you can find me spending time with my husband, Coy, two kids, Corbin & Lola, and dog, Sonny. I love spending time with my family and enjoying all the opportunities our community offers!
